The University of Jamestown is now accepting applications for a  Accommodations and Retention Specialist.  This position supports student success by coordinating reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and delivering proactive retention services. This role ensures equal access under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related laws while using case-management approaches to help at-risk, first-year, and continuing students persist and complete their degrees. The specialist works closely with students, faculty, and campus partners in a student-centered, confidential environment.

Key Responsibilities:
•  Conduct intake meetings with students seeking disability accommodations; review medical, psychological, or educational documentation to determine eligibility and appropriate academic, housing, testing, or other reasonable accommodations.
•  Authorize and coordinate accommodations (e.g., extended time, note-taking support, alternative formats, housing adjustments, emotional support animals) and communicate approved accommodations to faculty and relevant staff while protecting student confidentiality (FERPA).
•  Serve as a primary point of contact and advocate for students with disabilities; provide ongoing disability-related advising, problem-solving, and referrals.
•  Manage a caseload of students for retention support using early-alert systems, outreach, and success coaching; develop individualized success plans focused on academic progress, goal-setting, time management, and connection to campus resources.
•  Respond to faculty/staff early alerts and intervene with students showing signs of academic, personal, or engagement risk; track progress and document interventions.
•  Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, counseling, financial aid, housing, and other offices to coordinate holistic support and remove barriers to persistence and graduation.
•  Facilitate workshops, training, and outreach for students, faculty, and staff on disability awareness, inclusive practices, accommodations processes, and retention strategies.
•  Maintain accurate student records, accommodation files, and data in relevant systems; prepare reports on accommodation usage, retention outcomes, and compliance for institutional and regulatory purposes.
•  Stay current on federal/state disability laws, higher-education best practices in accessibility and retention, and university policies; assist with policy development and continuous improvement of services.
•  Perform other related duties as assigned to support student success and institutional compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:
•  Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred).
•  At least 1–2 years of experience working with college students in disability services, academic support, retention/advising, case management, or a related student-services role.
•  Working knowledge of the ADA, Section 504, FERPA, and principles of reasonable accommodation in higher education.
•  Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•  Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
•  Demonstrated commitment to student success, equity, and inclusive practices.
